Saskia Nitsche
Research Associate for Language & Design
Saskia Nitsche studied Theatre Studies as well as General and Comparative Literature at Freie Universität Berlin, Scenic Writing at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), and Literary Writing at the German Institute for Literature in Leipzig.
During her studies, she developed a strong interest in the different disciplines of design and attended seminars in Visual Communication at UdK Berlin as a guest student. This led to collaborations and to regular teaching activities at the intersection of these disciplines.
In addition to this focus, she has been teaching Literary and Scenic Writing since 2015. She has held teaching positions at, among others, the Institute for Creative Writing in Hildesheim, the Berlin University of the Arts, the Braunschweig University of Art, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau, and Offenbach University of Art and Design.
Her own writing includes prose, drama, and essays. Her work has been published in literary magazines and anthologies and presented in workshop productions and staged readings at various German-language theatres. She has received numerous awards and invitations to funding and residency programs.
In addition, she works as a freelance editor for various trade publishers and supports the development of identities, brands, and books using a method she developed herself, which encourages a conscious engagement with the narratives on which our thinking, actions, and creative practices are based.
She believes that the stories we tell shape the world, and that reflecting on one’s own identity, stance, perspective, and authorship is therefore just as important as technical skill.
